| The center covers the complete spectrum of congenital and adult cardiovascular surgery, including treatment of congenital heart disease in neonates and infants, coronary artery bypass grafting, valve surgery, as well as their various combinations. In addition, off-pump coronary artery surgery has been fully developed in our center, and this is especially true for high-risk patients referred for coronary artery bypass grafting, resulting in a significant reduction of post-operative neurological complications as well as a substantial decrease of the mortality rate in high- and highest-risk patients. |

| The operative spectrum also includes more advanced procedures such as the Ross as well as the Ross-Kono operation, the Tirone- David procedure, or simultaneous mitral valve repair combined with the Maze operation including less invasive variations applied according to the patient's needs. |

| The Maze III operation has also been successfully offered to those patients exclusively treated for lone Atrial fibrillation. Furthermore, since 2002 newer, more gentle procedures of therapies for atrial fibrillation have been introduced and applied, such as the high frequency ablation. |

| During the last few years, the Giessener Cardiovascular Surgical Center markedly increased their efforts establishing a fully developed aortic surgery program, including all kinds of thoracic, thoraco-abdominal as well as abdominal aortic surgery. Operative results achieved compare favourably with best current standards. |
